Welcome to the home of #labdaptationsTM ! My name is Katharine and I am a grad student with a physical disability working to make the research environment more inclusive. When I first started grad school, I struggled to find accessible lab equipment that allowed me to do research with my disability. With time and patience, I found my own solutions/tools that made the lab environment more accessible to me and I decided to share my lab adaptations (#labdaptations) on what was then Twitter. After a few of my posts went viral, it was clear that both disabled and able-bodied scientists were interested in AND benefited from these accessible, ergonomic tools.
Encouraged by such a positive response, I built this website to house my growing database of #labdaptations. It is my hope that having all of these inclusive tools in one location will not only facilitate the sharing of this knowledge, but also increase the accessibility of lab spaces.
I’m excited to continue to grow the #labdapations database and am currently working to create new, custom #labdaptations with 3D printing. Stay tuned for the results from this latest project and feel free to send a message if you have a #labdaptations you’d like to add to this database!
